Video Recording
Introducing video and audio components in your courses provides a powerful way of instruction and help students with various learning styles to learn more effectively.
Why use videos?
- Record a welcome video; Introduce the course, establish relationships and community with students, set expectations for course engagement, and discuss how the course will work.
- Instead of one long video, divide your content to maximum 10 to 15 minutes long segments if possible. Each video on a single topic. This will help your students to focus better.
- Recorded lectures help students to control their learning by allowing them to play, pause, fast-forward, rewind, skip-forward, and skip-backward.
- Do not be self conscious about the way you speak on the videos. Speaking in a relaxed, conversational manner when recording can enhance a social presence and is more favorable to students
- Assign coursework (quiz, assignments, etc)to increase memory recall of concepts presented in lectures. This can replace the need to track whether students have viewed lectures for participation or attendance.
- Include audio along with slides, text, and images. This help students focus and comprehend especially detailed and complex course content.
- You can have guest lecturers for your classes from all over the world. As long as your guests have internet connections.
Tips for studio recorded videos
- Pause before starting and look at the camera. This gives us (UZEM post production team) a clean cut point while editing your videos.
- If students will watch several videos, don't put an intro on each one.
- Text can be superimposed later, during post production, into the video
Tips, If you use touch screen or green box while teaching
- Plan your talk so you know where you are going to be drawing on the screen
- Dark clothing works best in front of green screen. Your clothing.shouldn't have text or stripes on it.
- When talking about something on the board, point at it and look at it. When you aren't writing or pointing, look at the camera.
Be creative with backgrounds, use a script, and look great on camera using our green screen, teleprompter, and light kit.
