Course Design

İstanbul Bilgi University, is committed to maintain it's high standards of instruction while teaching online and the University trusts it's faculty to adapt new methods and technologies to keep those standards.

UZEM (Distance Learning Center) in colaboration with Institutional Development and Quality Coordination Office provides written and audio/visual materials to address number of pedagogy and technology related issues that the instructors may face while preparing their courses.

Preparation for Remote Teaching

To ensure continuity of learning for any situation and to support students , instructors need to be fluent users of technology; creative and collaborative problem solvers. Even in face to face classes instructors are strongly encouraged to use digital materials whenever possible so that a quick change of course delivery method can take place if necessary.

Consider how you will manage your course; lectures, structuring for discussion or group work, and collecting assignments. Which teaching method is better for your course?

Step 1: Connect

Contact us to discuss your needs and schedule a consultation with Academic and Professional Development Programs to see which teaching method is better for your course.

Step 2: Discover

Advance your knowledge of learning objectives, assessments, activities, materials with and tools for online courses with our Academic and Professional Development Programs Consultants and/or UZEM consultants.

Step 3: Organize

The learning process is made more clear and measurable when objectives are clearly stated and linked to content, activities, and assessments. Use course design best practices checklist when designing your course.

Step 4: Build

We can help you build a course in Moodle and design activities to accompany your content. At this stage instructors may also use our video production studio to create welcome videos, or short lectures.

Step 5: Assess

We support many forms of tests and quizzes in Moodle, and we can help you build them.

Step 6: Practice

Practice running a class session via Zoom with TAs, or UZEM consultants before the semester starts is always a good idea. You may have internet connection issues or struggle with finding a feature that you want to use in Zoom. So practice can help you to take cousin before the synchronous lectures starts. If you teach with a whiteboard and need to handwrite during your class, it is also good idea to get in touch with an UZEM consultant to learn some techniques for transitioning handwriting to online environment.

Step 7: Review

If an Academic and Professional Development Programs Consultant worked with you to design your course. They do review your course time to time to ensure the standards are met and give you feedback and offer suggestions for improvement. If you have not worked with a consultant you can check the Quality Matters" review to ensure best practices and standards in your course design.
